šŸ¦øā€ā™‚ļø Your Superpower Isn’t Speed, It’s Grit!

A note for our trackstars:

Let me tell you a secret: Every champion started with a not-so-great race. Sometimes they tripped, Sometimes they came in last, Sometimes they cried after. But they always got back up. Why? Because they had grit.

šŸƒā€ā™€ļø But you’re probably asking ā€what is grit?ā€

Grit means you:

  • Keep going even when it’s hard

  • Try again even when you mess up

  • Don’t quit just because something takes time

It’s like a superpower that lives in your heart, not in your legs. Keep these two things in mind..

šŸ’„ Speed will help you win a race.

šŸ’Ŗ Grit will help you win at life.

🧠 Let’s Look at Grit in Action (With Real Track Kid Examples!)

  • Amira didn’t make the relay team in June but she trained all summer and came back to anchor it in August. šŸ’«

  • Jayden fell in the hurdles twice, but he kept practicing. His coach called him ā€œthe comeback kid.ā€ 🧱

So, ask yourself:

  • What’s one thing I didn’t give up on, even when it was tough?

  • How did it feel when I finally got it?

If you thought of even just one thing, that’s your grit talking. You don’t need to be the fastest, just the strongest in spirit.

šŸ› ļø Let’s Try This: Grit Builder Challenge

Complete 1 each week this month:

āœ… Run one more sprint than you want to

āœ… Cheer for a teammate even after a tough day

āœ… Practice something you’re not great at (yet!)

āœ… Write a note to yourself: ā€œI can do hard things!ā€

🧔 NOW FOR PARENTS: Growing Grit in Your Trackstars

Speed can be praised, but grit should be celebrated. Here’s how to help your child build it:

1. Praise the process, not just the outcome

Instead of: ā€œYou’re so fast!ā€

Try: ā€œYou worked really hard in that last stretch!ā€

2. Let them struggle a little

Grit grows in discomfort. Encourage trying again after a bad day or missed mark.

3. Tell ā€œgrittyā€ stories

Share your own childhood ā€œalmost quitā€ moments. Kids love hearing that even parents had to push through.

4. Create a family grit mantra

Examples:

  • ā€œHard things make us stronger.ā€

  • ā€œFall seven times, get up eight.ā€

  • ā€œWe’re not afraid of hard work.ā€

šŸ’¬ Final Trackstar Thoughts;

You might not be the fastest kid today. That’s okay. Because speed fades. But grit? That lasts forever. Always remember these three things.

šŸ… Run with heart. Train with purpose.

And never, ever give up.
